Photo guide
Cars with good photos get more and better offers. Shoot yours with our guided camera, or let us shoot it for you.
The shot list
All photos are landscape, so hold your phone sideways. Our camera walks you through each shot. The front, back, both sides and the odometer must be taken live in the camera. Everything else can come from your gallery. Shots marked optional make your listing stronger.

Some cars have a few extra shots: electric cars add the battery screen, charging port and cable. 4x4 and AWD cars add the drive selector. Modified cars add one photo per modification. Accident-repaired cars add the repair bills. If your car has no spare tyre, tick the box and we'll skip it.
Show every flaw up close, with a short note and where it is. If there is none, tick “No visible damage to show”.
We also ask for a photo of the chassis number plate. Only our review team sees it. It is never shown on your listing.
Two videos
- Interior (10 to 90 seconds, optional). Sit in the driver's seat and film slowly around the cabin. Hold the phone sideways.
- Exterior (10 to 120 seconds, optional). One continuous walk all the way around the outside of the car. Hold the phone sideways.
- Cold start (15 to 60 seconds, optional). The engine starting from cold, with the bonnet open.
Film sideways at 1080p or lower. Videos can be up to 300 MB.
Before you shoot
Wash and vacuum
A clean car looks cared for. Clean glass, wheels and the inside of the doors too.
Pick the right light
Shoot in the hour after sunrise or before sunset, in open shade. Avoid harsh noon sun and wet roads.
Find a plain background
An empty car park or a quiet road. Move other cars, bins and people out of frame.
Clear the cabin
Remove cables, tissues, air fresheners and personal items.
How to shoot
- Hold the phone sideways (landscape). The camera won't take a photo until you do.
- Stand back so the whole car fits. We warn you if you're too close.
- Use your phone's main camera at its normal setting. Photos need at least 3 MP, which any recent phone clears.
- For three-quarter shots, turn the front wheels so the face of the wheel is visible.
- Take the odometer photo with the ignition on so the reading and warning lights are visible.
- Shoot flaws honestly and close up. Buyers trust sellers who show them.
- Don't use filters or editing. Photos must show the car as it is. Edited photos are sent back.
Your privacy
- We blur your number plate for you. You don't need to hide it.
- Your location is only added if you choose to share it.
- Your documents and chassis photo are only seen by our review team.
Don'ts
- No watermarks, phone numbers or text on photos.
- No stock photos or pictures of a different car.
- No faces of other people.
